11/06

This week for class we talked about service.  We started by reading the book "Just Critters Who Care".  We then headed outside, put on our gloves, and picked up trash around the church parking lot.  The kids enjoyed this and would even race to large pieces of trash they saw.  After we did a loop around the parking lot we went back inside and finished our time by coloring a picture of kids doing various service around their home.  Each child said they would do some service in their home this week.

10/23

On the 23rd we talked about the water cycle.  We did some reading about different kinds of clouds and how they are formed.  We then made our own water cycles and had each child show theirs and practice telling the class how it works, so they could go home and explain it to their family.

10/09

This week in class we learned about trees.  We looked at pictures of different kinds of trees with different kinds of leaves.  We talked about the life cycle of a tree and kinds of seeds that trees have.  We did an apple tree activity where the kids cut and pasted how a seed grows into a tree and produces apples after it is grown.  We talked about parts of a tree- roots, trunk, branches, leaves, and how the sap helps to spread nutrients inside the tree.  We read a book that touched on many aspects of a tree and showed how a tree changes with each season.  The book also talked about how trees have different kinds of bark, some smooth, some rough, some bumpy, etc.

Challenge: Teacher Jennifer challenged each of the kids to go for a walk, bring a paper and crayon, and make a rubbing of bark on a tree.  If the rubbing is brought back to our next class on the 23rd (next week the 16th is the field trip), the kids will be able to get a special prize.  Please help your children complete this activity.  Thanks!

The theme for October is Fall.

This class time was dedicated to learning all about leaves.  The kids were given a picture to color of a leaf with basic parts, blade, vein, stem, and told of what these parts do for the leaf.  A basic explanation of photosynthesis was also shared.  The kids had the opportunity to look at leaves up close with magnifying glasses.  Also, they were able to do leaf rubbings of various kinds of leaves.

Need of supply

Hello, everyone. I hope you all have wonderful time.
I think if all the kids have their own bag of supplies, that would be great. Help them take care their own things.
These are things that we need.
 crayon
 scissor
 glue stick
 marker
 pencil
 eraser

Just put them in a ziplock bag and write their name on it.
We will keep them in our classroom.
Thank you so much for your support and your beautiful children.

09/18 and 09/25

The theme for September has been shapes and colors.

On the 18th we started by looking at a book that used a variety shapes to make animal faces.  We played with blocks that were many different shapes and tried to make a picture.  We saw flowers, suns, faces, etc. being made.  Next, we split into two groups and used magnetic shapes to build things as a team.  The children took turns to pick what to build.  There was a house, a tall building, a store, and even a horse.  For the last activity each child got a square of Rice Krispy Treat and used a cookie cutter to cut out a shape from the treat.

On the 25th we talked about how color is a reflection of light.  We turned off the lights and used a flashlight to reflect light/color from one paper to another.  We also used the flashlight to shine through a water bottle onto the wall to see the rainbow colors.  Our next activity was about what happens when colors are mixed.  We drew with markers on coffee filters, and set them in water to bleed the colors together.  After that we talked about primary colors.  Each child got paint in the primary colors yellow, red, and blue.  We talked about and experimented with mixing the colors to make the colors of the rainbow.
